MSAR® fuel is a liquid consisting of very fine oil particles dispersed in a water carrier. Heavy oil feedstock is processed into a water based emulsion fuel with oil particles of typically five micron diameter; effectively a pre-atomised fuel. This is an advance on previous emulsified fuels as smaller sized, consistent oil particles allow maximum carbon burnout. QFI are able to produce cost competitive and stable emulsified fuels suited to varying parameters of transportation, storage and application from virtually any hydrocarbon residue or heavy crude feedstock.

Conventional heavy fuel oil contains light high value hydrocarbon diluent as a viscosity reducing agent to make it mobile and transportable. The MSAR® fuel process uses water and emulsifiers as the viscosity reducing agent resulting in a significantly lower cost fuel. The MSAR® fuel produced has very similar characteristics to heavy fuel oil. It can be handled in systems designed for fuel oil but at lower temperatures.
